Gli studi più noti hanno dimostrato l’associazione degli Herpesvirus con alcuni tumori dell’uomo. Nel ’79 ha isolato il virus respiratorio sinciziale nei bambini affetti durante l’epidemia del “male oscuro” di Napoli. Attualmente è impegnato nel separare antigeni tumorali ed identificare il loro valore nella diagnosi e nell’immunoterapia. Dell’esperienza maturata nella gestione dei servizi di interesse pubblico presso l’A. Ospedale Cotugno e del Monadi, nel periodo di unione delle due aziende ospedaliere, ha condotto dei progetti finalizzati per quel che riguarda gli aspetti diagnostici e terapeutici, nell’ambito delle epidemie ricorrenti della Regione Campania dal colera alle epatiti all’AIDS e più recentemente alla SARS ed all’influenza aviaria; infine, è stato in grado di formare e qualificare numeroso personale che a sua volta ha poi diretto e organizzato non solo nell’ambito dell’ A. O. Cotugno, ma di anche di altre strutture sanitarie, con responsabilità direttive in Italia ed all’estero.

   Conosce perfettamente l’inglese (cinque anni di permanenza negli USA), conosce anche bene il Francese relazione e interviste, conosce pure il Tedesco relazione al Palazzo dei Congressi di Berlino e scritti come da curriculum, conosce anche lo Spagnolo relazione a Madrid sempre vedi curriculum, conosce moderatamente il Russo frequenza all’associazione Italia-URSS e appartenente ad accademie della Russia e dell’ Ucraina come da curriculum.

Nell’ambito di tutte le esperienze di direzione summenzionate si è occupato di organizzare la formazione e la qualificazione del personale diretto; In modo particolare evidenzia il delicato ruolo nel qualificare il personale scelto per la costituzione del Reparto di Virologia presso l’Ospedale Cotugno; identico impegno è stato profuso nell’organizzare e formare il personale nell’ambito degli studi effettuati per il microscopio elettronico.

Nell’ambito di Presidente del Comitato tecnico Scientifico del Consorzio Interuniversitario Alta Formazione “Alberto Moravia” si è occupato di valutare le scelta operate dagli organi competenti nel settore della didattica, del tutorato e del diritto allo studio.

Come professore di “Virologia Oncologica” della I Facoltà di Medicina e Chirurgia dell’Università di Napoli fino al 1985 è stato responsabile dell’organizzazione della prima cattedra di virologia oncologica in Italia con tutti i relativi processi di strutturazione personalmente guidati in questo ruolo.

E’ stato responsabile anche di personale afferente all’ospedale, di borsisti e di personale sponsorizzato da enti privati e pubblici distaccati presso l’ente ospedaliero. Nelle responsabilità assunte negli obbiettivi aziendali di tipo finanziario ha condotto il passaggio dei laboratori di virologia da attività locale a quella regionale e quindi di centro di riferimento nazionale e internazionale per gli scopi della virologia scoprendo il “male oscuro di Napoli” (virosi respiratoria sincinziale) con budgets della regione del ministero della ricerca e della sanità.

Nella qualità di direttore di progetto del National Cancer Institute (USA) tra il 1971-75 ha organizzato  il laboratorio di Virologia presso l’Ospedale Cotugno con un Fondo Cassa del Mezzogiorno, per le apparecchiature necessarie, il personale e la strutturazione della divisione prima come associazione di ricerca che utilizzava i locali dell’ospedale (1971-73) e poi (1973-75) come Reparto Diagnostico di Nuova istituzione facente parte dell’Ente Ospedaliero Cotugno; in questo periodo ha portato avanti ricerca e si è occupato del finanziamento della stessa, iniziando come antesignano della virologia dell’ospedale di malattie infettive e ricoprendo il ruolo di primario  conducendo attività di ricerca e diagnostica insieme al personale dell’ospedale e volontari.Nell’ambito dell’esperienza di direzione della Fondazione T. & L. de Beaumont Bonelli per le Ricerche sul Cancro è stato in grado di organizzare congressi internazionali con la partecipazione di primi Nobel o di antesignani di malattie che portano il loro nome e quindi di condurre a livello amministrativo finanziario budgets dalla istituzione dell’ente morale ad oggi dirigendo personale tecnico/amministrativo e di ricerca; per la stessa Fondazione si è proceduto dal 1978 ad oggi alla gestione economico-amministrativa del rilevante patrimonio immobiliare della stessa, risolvendo con l’ausilio di professionisti incaricati anche delicate questioni di carattere legale.

È stato coordinatore scientifico dell’ipertermia extracorporea in pazienti con epatite C per il First Circle Medicine, Minneapolis USA (2000 – 2003).

Nell’ambito dei piani pluriennali di investimento si è occupato a fine concreto del finanziamento della Regione Campania per il microscopio elettronico e per le altre apparecchiature e reagenti predisposte a far del servizio di virologia punto di riferimento per la ricerca e la diagnostica a livello nazionale e internazionale, nel frattempo sono afferiti fondi di enti parastatali, vedi ENI e di industrie farmaceutiche. Esperienza di direzione più recente è quella nell’ambito della nuova organizzazione della Regione Campania, lungimirante rispetto agli obiettivi del III millennio, riguarda la Presidenza della società consortile a responsabilità limitata e la presidenza del Consiglio di Amministrazione del CCTA, dove è stato scelto dal Governatore Bassolino su proposta degli assessori dell’ambiente e della ricerca; nell’ambito di tale incarico si occupa dell’attuazione dei piani pluriennali  dell’ente “In House” della Regione Campania.
